We usually carve an earlier drawn pattern like shapes and letters, to prepare the wax surface for painting, unless the product is to stay intentionally uncoloured. It’s not an easy technique and it takes a long time, but receiving a ‘hand carved’ candle gift sounds luxurious and expensive.
